Understanding Essential Oils

Essential Oils are naturally derived from plants and flowers. They are the compressed form of these respective items. They are difficult to find in their pure form, but there are two companies that are well-known and trusted for being 100% pure. Doterra and Young Living are these companies, both of which I utilize when making my products. Blended oils are a combination of multiple oils placed together in a specific manner which provides the user with a unique recipe designed for a specific purpose. Single oils are just that. Single oils designed to provide the user with a concentrate for use in medicinal purposes.

While some essential oils can be ingested, others cannot. There are some oils that are topical, while others require diluting before application. Coconut oil is an example of an oil used for this purpose. It is still all-natural (provided you get it from Doterra or Young Living) and will protect the skin from over-exposure to a concentrated essential oil. In addition, some oils and blends are useful for their aroma. Their medicinal value in assisting with stress release is maximized by inhalation. Serenity Blend is an example of one of our personal favorites. Another great option is Lemongrass. These are examples of oils used in diffusers, throughout a house. Similar to incense it is used as a calming aroma, but the process is a bit different. Incense is lit, while the diffuser utilizes water and turns the oil and water combination into vapor. This makes it healthy for inhalation and will not affect the lungs in the same way other inhalants might.

In all products made by South of Valhalla Crafts, the oils are safe for skin contact, as there is only a small percentage of the oils used in combination with other ingredients.
